Colorado Parental Alienation Support (CPAS) is the region's only in-person support group offering education, discussion and support for Colorado parents experiencing custodial interference, false allegations, coercive control, and domestic violence by proxy. CPAS believes that children deserve to have the love, nurture, and time with both parents and all extended family. And, however difficult your journey, we urge you, as Coach Jim Valvano said, "Never Give Up!"
This phrase emphasizes the importance of perseverance.
CPAS is a volunteer-run, charitable, support organization committed to helping parents who are or have experienced parental alienation.
Parental Alienation (PA) is the process, and the result, of psychological manipulation of a child into showing unwarranted fear, disrespect or hostility towards a parent. As a distinctive form of psychological abuse towards both the child and the rejected family members, it occurs almost exclusively in association with family separation or divorce, particularly where legal action is involved. Most commonly, the primary cause is a parent wishing to exclude another parent from the life of their child, but other family members or friends, as well as professionals involved with the family (including psychologists, therapists, lawyers and judges), may contribute significantly to the process.
The process of alienation refers to Alienating Behaviors (AB), which are the actions, tactics and both verbal and non-verbal behaviors by the alienator that constitute what the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) labels as Child Psychological Abuse. In common language, it is child maltreatment and should be considered criminal. The possible result of these efforts are the manifestations in the child, whether or not the child reciprocates or if the child resists contact with the targeted parent (TP).
Parental Alienation often leads to long-term, or even permanent, estrangement of a child or children from one parent and their family and, as a particularly Adverse Childhood Experience, almost always results in significantly increased lifetime risks of both mental and physical illness.
If you or someone you love have experienced hostile aggressive parenting and the ravages of parental alienation, you need a support group who understands the pain. If you have suffered through this form of domestic violence and believe your children have been impacted by this form of child abuse and that they are suffering from what historically was labeled "parental alienation syndrome," then you need us.
We are industry professionals and parents, grandparents and other loved ones who "get it" and can help provide you the knowledge, resources, and support to survive and thrive.
We are the original support group in Colorado advocating for families impacted by parental alienation and the related issues of custodial interference, false allegations, coercive control, and domestic violence by proxy.
